How to Trim and Cut a Video Online for Free (Lossless, No Watermark)

How to Trim and Cut a Video Online for Free Without Uploading It

Sometimes all you need is a piece of a video: the good ten seconds out of a two-minute recording, the highlight from a long clip, or the part before someone fumbled the take. Trimming is simple in principle, but online video cutters make it a chore. They upload your whole file, make you wait, ask for an account, and then re-encode the clip so it comes out slightly worse than the original, often with a watermark on top.

Upsampler's Free Video Trimmer cuts video right in your browser, with a lossless fast mode that does not degrade quality at all. There is no upload, no signup, no watermark, and no limit. Your video never leaves your device.

How to Trim a Video

  1. Open the Free Video Trimmer in a modern browser.
  2. Add your video by dragging it in or clicking to browse. It accepts MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV.
  3. Set your clip. Drag the in and out handles on the trim slider to mark the start and end of the section you want to keep. You can hit the preview button to loop just the selected range and check it before exporting.
  4. Choose a cutting mode (see below).
  5. Download the clip. The tool shows the original and trimmed duration alongside the original and new file size.

Two Cutting Modes

Fast mode (lossless, the default)

Fast mode copies the video stream directly without re-encoding, so the trimmed clip is bit-for-bit as good as the source and the export is nearly instant. Because it works by keyframe, the cut snaps to the nearest keyframe, which means your clip may start a fraction of a second early. For most trims that is completely fine, and you get zero quality loss and maximum speed. Fast mode does not even need WebCodecs.

Frame-exact mode

When you need the cut to land on an exact timestamp, switch on frame-exact mode. It re-encodes the clip so the start and end are precise to the frame. This is the right choice when timing matters, for example trimming to sync with audio or hitting a specific moment. Frame-exact mode uses WebCodecs.

Why This Trimmer Is Different

It runs in your browser

The cut happens on your own device. There is no upload, so it is private and there is no server queue.

Lossless by default

Most online trimmers re-encode everything, quietly degrading your clip. Here the default fast mode copies the stream untouched, so quality is perfectly preserved and the export is almost immediate.

No watermark, no signup, no cap

Trim as many videos as you like. The output is clean and nothing gets in your way.

Trim, Then Compress or Resize

Trimming to a shorter clip is often the first step. Once you have the section you want, you can shrink its file size with the Free Video Compressor or change its resolution with the Free Video Resizer. All three run in your browser with no uploads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the video trimmer free?

Yes, completely. No signup, no watermark, and no limit on how many videos you trim.

Is my video uploaded to trim it?

No. Trimming happens in your browser, so your video never leaves your device.

Does trimming reduce quality?

Not in the default fast mode. It copies the video stream without re-encoding, so the clip is identical in quality to the source. Frame-exact mode re-encodes for precise cuts.

Why does my clip start slightly early in fast mode?

Fast mode snaps the cut to the nearest keyframe to stay lossless and fast. If you need the cut to land exactly, switch on frame-exact mode.

What video formats can I trim?

MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV. The output keeps your source container family, defaulting to MP4.
