How RIFE invents the missing frames
This tool runs RIFE (Real-Time Intermediate Flow Estimation), the AI model that made high-quality frame interpolation practical. For every pair of consecutive frames, it estimates how each part of the image moves between them, then renders brand-new frames along those motion paths. That is fundamentally different from the frame blending in basic editors: blends smear two frames on top of each other and produce ghosting, while interpolation draws the moment in between as if the camera had actually captured it.
It is a different job from upscaling: the free AI video upscaler adds resolution to each frame, while this page adds frames between them. Smoothness and sharpness are separate axes, and for a rough clip the two tools chain well: interpolate here first, then upscale the result.
Hard cuts are detected automatically. When two neighboring frames belong to different shots, the AI skips inventing motion between them, so scene changes stay clean instead of ghosting.
Smooth slow motion and 60fps conversion
The two most popular uses are plain-language versions of the same trick. To make a video smoother, interpolate at 2x or 4x and play it back normally: 30fps phone footage becomes 60 or 120fps, and panning shots lose their judder. To create smooth slow motion, interpolate first and then slow the clip down: a 2x interpolated video slowed to half speed keeps its original frame rate, so the slow motion looks captured rather than stuttery. It also works well on animation and gaming clips: anime rendered at low frame rates gains fluid motion, and gameplay recordings capped by a recorder feel far smoother. Purists disagree about whether anime should be interpolated; try a short clip and judge for yourself.
What to expect
The free tier accepts clips up to 6 seconds and 1280px on the longest side, which covers social clips, loops, and test cuts; trim longer footage first with the free video trimmer. Interpolation is honest about physics: very fast or chaotic motion, spinning wheels, and rapid particle effects can produce visible artifacts, because even a good motion estimate cannot know what happened between two wildly different frames. Ordinary camera and character motion interpolates cleanly. Your audio track is copied through unchanged, and results come back as MP4. Uploads are processed transiently and never stored in a gallery.
